Transport
Access to a safe and affordable transport network is an essential requirement
for consumers. The absence of acceptable transport options can impact
on consumers in a wide range of ways, leading for example to barriers
in employment, education, health care and access to food.
At the same time how consumers choose to travel, and in particular the increased use of car travel, is responsible for wider environmental problems including increased congestion and air pollution.
Objective
The SCC aims to ensure that the consumer interest is effectively represented in policy decisions relating to transport, and in particular decisions relating to public transport.
We are working towards ensuring that consumers in Scotland have an accessible, affordable and integrated public transport system that is both socially inclusive and allows consumer to make sustainable travel choices.
We want to ensure that policies in this area do not affect disadvantaged consumers more than others and this supports both social inclusion and sustainable development.
And we want consumers to have an effective mechanism for complaints when things go wrong.
