Moving Home in Scotland: a guide to buying and selling your home - April 2006
MOVING HOME is one of the most stressful and expensive events in everyday life. This practical guide explains the process of buying and selling in Scotland, outlining the various options open to you and explaining the factors to be considered at every stage.
This book helps you to consider whether to move in the first place, what you can afford, and what you should look for in terms of space, location and facilities. It then explains:
•what is involved in buying and selling a home
•mortgages
•surveys and valuations
•the conveyancing process
before providing invaluable tips on surviving the actual move itself.

Supporting children and young people’s learning: a handbook for parents when their child needs additional support - January 2006
This guide is aimed at helping parents get the best out of the new Additional Support for Learning Act. The guide was written by Shelley Gray, Policy Officer for Children in Scotland and Jennifer Wallace, Policy Manager at the Scottish Consumer Council.
The handbook is being published at a time of significant change in the system for children and young people in need of additional support to benefit from education. The Education (Additional Support for Learning) Act 2004, which came into force in November 2005, replaces entirely the old system of Special Educational Needs. This guide aims to help parents through the system, explaining key terms and processes, to ensure that they can get the best for their children.
