Money matters
The Scottish Consumer Council's policy work on money matters is focused on the interests of low-income consumers.
As financial services is an area reserved to the UK parliament, most work in this area is carried out by our colleagues at the National Consumer Council (NCC).
NCC highlights and researches problems consumers encounter when trying to gain access to suitable financial products and services, such as:
-
banking
-
credit
-
financial advice
-
saving products
-
pensions

SCC has been involved in discussions on consumer credit reform, and has responded to government on a number of related issues, in relation to the position of consumers in Scotland.
We also responded to proposals by the previous Scottish Executive s to
- introduce a debt arrangement scheme in Scotland
- reform bankruptcy laws
- reform the law of diligence
The SCC is also represented on the Cross-Party Cross-Parliamentary Group in the Scottish Parliament on Tackling Debt.
