Get involved - Consumer Network

If you want to get involved in the work SCC carries out, you can become a member of our Consumer Network.  Our Network is a group of over 190 volunteers from all parts of Scotland, who help to keep us informed about consumer concerns at a local level. Members identify local consumer issues and investigate local services and facilities for our research programme. We also have some associate groups representing particular sections of the population.

There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ volunteer.  The strength of our Network lies in its diversity.  We want to ensure that our members are drawn from all walks of life, with different interests and a wide range of consumer experiencesThe ‘ideal’ Network member is one who gives us information, who takes part in surveys, in short - one who participates.  This is a home-based opportunity - the time commitment is small, perhaps an hour or so every couple of months.  There are no formal qualifications required and no barriers to eligibility.

Further information is available in our booklet 'about the consumer network'.

Activities

Keeping us informed

We ask our Network members to be our 'eyes and ears' across the country by telling us about any consumer issues that concern them or their local community.   To tell us your views please click on the link below:

Research projects

From time to time we ask our Network members to take part in small-scale research projects. We may ask our volunteers to investigate facilities or find out about services in their area. Recently Network members told us their views about recycling facilities in their local areas.

Meetings

Annual meetings are held at which Network members have the opportunity to learn about consumer issues and to tell us about their concerns. Our meeting this year will be held at the Ramada City Hotel in Glasgow on Thursday 4 September 2008.   Members are invited to join us for lunch and an afternoon of lively debate.  To view reports of our meetings please follow the links below:
