Environment
There are a wide range of issues that fall under the broad heading of environment
and there are many dedicated environmental organisations across Scotland
that focus on these. The SCC concentrates on environmental issues from
the perspective of the consumer, particularly those who are disadvantaged,
and ensure that their interests are taken into account by policy makers.
Consumers are central to environmental issues in Scotland and policies to promote sustainable development and consumption need to take account of the consumer interest. The SCC will work towards ensuring that policies and programmes designed to bring about a change in consumer behaviour towards more sustainable forms of consumption are developed with an understanding of the consumer interest. In particular, to ensure that policy developments do not impact disproportionately on the most disadvantaged consumers in Scotland.
The SCC has sustainability as one of its four core strategic themes.
